LIMITED EDITION: KENYAN PEABERRY THIKA COFFEE

Because we've been out of Kenyan Coffee (one of our favorites) for a few weeks now, we decided to try some Kenyan Peaberry beans and we're very pleasantly surprised. Our new Kenyan Peaberry Thika is a full bodied coffee with berry tones and an amora remeniscent of blackberry. Peaberry refers to the shape of a special coffee bean. The fruit of the coffee tree, the cherry, contains two seeds. Under normal circumstances, these seeds develop in tandem, their outer sides rounded, their touching sides flat. On occasion, one seed fails to develop, leaving the other to go it alone, forming a single oval peaberry or “caracol.” In some plantations and processing plants, it is the practice to sort these out from the regular beans and market them separately.
